Thomas Larkin, originally from Italy, had an extremely impressive freshman season for Colgate University in 2009-10, but since then, the 6`5 defenseman has stalled offensively. He recorded just 11 points last season, and has just two assists in five games this year. He is, and was at the time of being drafted, a project pick, and he still has two years to develop in the NCAA. Given his size and offensive potential, he should earn a contract upon finishing school. Thomas spielt zurzeit eine sehr solide Saison in seiner 3.Saison an der Colgate University...
Wenn es so weitergeht könnte er ohne Umwege in den nächsten Jahren AHL spielen...und einem Verteidiger seines Ausmaßes könnte sich dort auch das eine oder andere Türchen aufmachen. |

Drafted 5th round, 137th overall, 2009 Like Corbeil-Theriault above him, Larkin possesses a big frame at 6`5, 221lbs, which is a reason the Blue Jackets drafted him in the fifth round of the 2009 Entry Draft. He`s also a great skater, and has already shown the ability to put up offense in his young career. Though he struggled last year with just 11 points in 41 games, he`s already eclipsed that mark by posting 14 points in just 32 games this season for Colgate University. In his junior season, Larkin can, and most likely will play one more season in the NCAA. The Italian-born defender should be tendered a contract following his collegiate career, if not for his size and skating ability alone. Thomas Larkin wurde von den Coaches ins "THIRD TEAM ALL-LEAGUE" gewaehlt, also ins drittbeste All Star Team der ECAC. Quelle: League Announces Regular-Season Awards Colgate erreichte dieses Wochenende bei den Finals der ECAC in Atlanta City den vierten Platz, Larkin beendet somit die Saison mit 14 Skorerpunkten und 48 Strafminuten bei 37 Einsaetzen. Offensiv also hat er wenig gebracht, defensiv resultierte aber ein Plus-Minus-Bilanz von +13, das ist der Bestwert fuer einen Verteidiger in seinem Team und der fuenfbeste Wert in der gesamten ECAC. Naechstes Jahr wird er wahrscheinlich seine letzte Saison als "Senior" bestreiten und danach endlich seine Chance im Profieishockey bekommen. Drafted 5th round, 137th overall, 2009 The 6`5 Larkin, originally from Italy, is an interesting prospect. He has the size and mobility to become a dynamic defenseman, but he needs to work on putting together the rest of his game. His shot could be improved, as could his outlet passes, but the 21-year old does like to get involved in the offense; in 37 games for Colgate University, Larkin registered 14 points, three more than last season, but still short of his impressive freshman campaign. Drafted 5th round, 137th overall, 2009 Colgate University`s captain had a notable junior season. In his first year with the "C" on his chest, Larkin had a career-high +13 rating. He scored four goals and 14 points in 37 games, a solid total for a defense-first rearguard. At 6`5" and 206 pounds, getting in the way of charging wingers is not a problem for Larkin as he plays a valuable shutdown role for Colgate. He is not the fastest player on the ice and has the tendency to make poor decisions with the puck at times, but his strong shot is always on the opposition`s mind. He is usually the biggest guy on the ice but could stand to increase his physicality. If Larkin is to have success in a shutdown role at the professional level, he needs to improve his one-on-one play and consistency in the physical game. Talent Analysis
Larkin’s biggest challenge is to use his size to his advantage. At 6’5 he should be an imposing force in the collegiate game, but he is yet to be the physical force the Blue Jackets are hoping he can be. Future Larkin will be heading back to Colgate University for his senior season and will need to turn some heads with his physical play. Das elendige Problem eben wenn man so groß ist, die Mobilität...
Seine anderen Schwächen denke ich, kann er noch ein wenig beseitigen...aber für den großen Coup wirds leider nicht reichen... |

da wird es klar und deutlich gesagt dass Larkin bei jedem Spiel seinen Körper erfolgreich einsetzen muss weil das die einzige Qualität ist die ihm zum "professional hockey" (sprich: zumindest AHL) verhelfen könnte.
